Planning your holiday and choosing the best place to stay on the Dorset coast can be hard work. One of the toughest decisions will be deciding between a hotel stay or bed & breakfast break. We’ve seen a huge boom in ‘staycations’ over the past few years and B&B stays are a popular choice.
Before we get into our top reasons why to pick a B&B over a hotel for your next holiday, it’s probably useful for us to answer the question:
“What is the difference between a B&B and a hotel?”
To us, the main difference is that a hotel would usually have a restaurant (serving dinner) and a 24-hour reception. A B&B like ours doesn’t have these things. But, otherwise, things are the same and there is no difference between a B&B and a hotel!

Gloucester House B&B is owned by us - Jonathan and Karen Oldroyd. For many years we dreamed about having our own bed and breakfast by the sea; in 2019 we found Gloucester House and we were able to turn our dream into reality! Having worked in hospitality for many years, we combine our passion for great hospitality with our love for coastal living.
To us Gloucester House is about packing up and wandering off the beaten path, because Gloucester House is freedom. It's pleasure. It's taking a step back from responsibility, taking a break from the grind. It's connecting with nature. It's jogging or strolling along the beach with the wind in your face... When you stay with at Gloucester House B&B in Weymouth you’ll always get a warm welcome. But don’t worry, we’re not intrusive! We’ve 15 lovely bedrooms, so we’re small enough to care personally about everything, but large enough for you to have all the privacy and space you’ll need to really relax during your stay – just like a hotel.
Check-in is available from 2:00pm – 7:00pm daily. If you need to check-in outside these times, please let us know in advance and we’ll make arrangements with you.
Start your day with an award-winning breakfast
We realise that one of the most important aspects - whether you choose to stay in a bed and breakfast or a hotel in Weymouth – is breakfast. Start your day the right way and all the rest falls into place! In our quest for breakfast perfection, we’ve personally sought out the very best local producers and suppliers. We are very proud of our Dorset breakfasts, which were also recognised by The AA, who gave us one of their highly coveted “Breakfast Awards” in 2021.
When you stay with us, breakfast is served in our newly refurbished breakfast room. Breakfast is available: 8:00am to 9:30am (with some flexibility by prior arrangement). A cooked breakfast is included in your stay when you book here on our website or by calling us on 01305 785191.
Bedrooms with sea views
One of the things we love most about Gloucester House B&B is how close we are to the sea; it’s literally just across the road! We have lots of bedrooms with sea views, and some have balconies too. So, if you love the beach as much as we do, there is nowhere better to stay! Even if you don’t opt for a sea view bedroom for your stay in Dorset, you can still soak up the seascapes from our spacious and comfortable sea view lounge.

A great thing about running Gloucester House B&B personally, is that we can really think – and act on – the things you need to make your stay in Weymouth most comfortable and convenient! Sometimes something as simple as parking makes a lot of difference when you’ve had a long journey, so we will help you get parked close by.
As you can appreciate, parking on the seafront can get busy, but there are plenty of choices for paid parking, in either on-street or pay and display car parks.
Simply check-in, drop your luggage off, and we will give you details about where to park.
